It was Christmas Eve, the snow was falling, and they were all going to Midnight Mass. The church was, fortunately, in walking distance. Having had a hearty meal and enjoyed the festive programmes on the 'box' it was time to go. Melanie was well muffled up in a thick sweater and 3'4 length jacket over which went her maroon cape. She also pulled up the hood as she didn't want to be soaked by snowballs. As they went, the odd snowball came her way and splattered against her. Then they were in the church where she removed her cape and prepared for the service. About 90 minutes later it was over.
Not knowing what the weather was going to do, she was soon in her cape buttoned and hooded. As she stepped out of the church a voice called 'Merry Christmas Red Riding Hood' and Mark planted the first kiss of Christmas on her and gave her a small parcel. Melanie rummaged under her cape and found hers to him. He then was invited back for a drink and a mince pie. Melanie had a few minutes on her own with him and soon he had undone her cape, a lovely sensation, and it was discarded. They joined the others for a post mass drink and a mince pie. On the afternoon of Christmas day all the family went to Mark's house for tea. The snow had stopped, it was sunny but an icy wind. Melanie again was dressed warmly and put on her cape to act as a windshield. She was wearing a new, blue woolly hat her brother had given her as a present and looked very glamorous. Mark was on his best behaviour and hung up her cape for her. They enjoyed their tea immensely. Eventually it was time to make tracks with Mark dropping Melanie's cape on her shoulders with a final kiss before she slid her arms out of sight. They were going to the Boxing day meet next day and Melanie told Mark she would be in her cape.
