Spring at Last!

Fiona had found it a hard winter with lots of cold, wet days.

It was lucky that her blue mackintosh cape fitted so easily over her winter coat. She found that its windproofing qualities tempted her to wear it even when it wasn't raining. In her village she was known as 'the caped crusader'!

However, it suddenly started to get warmer and soon her winter coat was discarded and she could get away with a tweed jacket and jersey, frequently topped with her cape to deal with the April showers.

One Saturday in mid-April, she and Fred decided to have a day in London and visit her sister. It was a sunny, breezy day and Fiona looked superb in a red tweed suit. Fred complimented her on her turnout and she added that despite the sun she was going to wear her cape as a windshield.

Having said this, she hooked her bag over her shoulders, donned her cape and a cute little red beret and off they went.

Fiona looked a picture with her white scarf showing flambuoyantly at her neck, the top button being left undone and the sun shining on her cape.

A short walk found them at the station and soon the train arrived. There were plenty of seats so they passed the journey comfortably, Fred smoking his pipe and Fiona snuggled inside her cape.

An hour later the train was at Euston and they were on their way. After buying chocolates and flowers they made their way to David and Diana.

They received a rapturous welcome. Fiona quickly shed her cape and soon they were enjoying pre-lunch drinks. Diana had tried on Fiona's cape, saying she'd have to have a similar one.

It was atraditional meal of roast beef with all the trimmings followed by an unending supply of wine. Soon they felt very comfortable.

As the sun was shining they decided on a walk to the park. By this time the day had warmed up a lot, and Fiona was able to leave her cape undone, so people could see her red suit. The flowers in the park looked lovely and all were in a happy mood for afternoon tea when they got back.

Too soon it was time to make tracks. It was now somewhat chilly so Fiona buttoned her cape and slid her arms out of sight.

The return trip went without a hitch and soon they were on the last lap. Home at last. They kissed each other and Fred couldn't resist undoing Fiona's cape. They had a good tipple before turning in, with the joys of Sunday to follow.

A few weeks later, David and Diana came for the day. Diana was wearing a new mackintosh cape in old gold, never mind its being another lovely sunny day.
