Sodden Summer
David and Diana were finding the summer rather damp. Diana's summer dresses were more often seen indoors than out and about. However, things weren't altogether bad as thanks to her sister Fiona, she was able to invest in a beautiful 'old gold' mackintosh cape. She quite enjoyed the rain cascading off her cape when she walked on Hampstead Heath with the hood up and men giving a quick glance. She loved the enclosed feeling but if the rain eased, she loved to lower the hood and undo the buttons so her dress was visible.
One Sunday they decided to go to Brighton. It was a day in mid- June, warm but overcast. David was in his lightweight suit and Diana had put on a dazzling dress. Diana had her cape over her arm as they set off to Victoria. Soon they were speeding through the Surrey and Sussex countryside. Within an hour they were at Brighton. As they stepped off the train the heavens opened and Diana was quickly buttoned and hooded. David had a huge umbrella so she was well protected, loving the enclosed feeling. As she said to David, you couldn't beat a cape, it went over anything. They made their way along the sea front to the restaurant where they were meeting friends Roger and Rose. They were glad to get under cover and to leave their raingear to dry. They enjoyed a convivial meal, which stretched into the afternoon. They decided to explore The Lanes and, luckily, the rain had stopped and the sun was shining. Nevertheless, Diana chose to wear her cape but left it undone. As a result a few heads turned! They had a lovely time looking around, then decided to go on the pier. They enjoyed seeing yachts scudding by. They then looked around for a teashop, which they found. Time was moving on and soon they were at the station. An hour later they were in London and the air was getting chilly so Diana was only to happy to button her cape as they went on their way. They stopped off for a light meal and a drink to round off the day. Diana, having shed her cape, could show off her dress. Eventually they made tracks, Diana smiling as David lowered her cape onto her shoulders. As it was getting cooler she did up the buttons telling David how she loved feeling enclosed and being able to keep her arms hidden, which she did all the way home. David said he loved the swishing sound she made as she walked! Home at last and soon in each other's arms with Diana loving being unbuttoned! Soon it was out with the whisky bottle and soon both collapsed on the sofa!.....
