It was late in the war and I was on a bus to Berkhamsted on a very wet day.
It was cosy to sit inside the bus watching others struggling.
I remember seeing a woman struggling desperately to don a blue cape in a howling gale plus torrential rain. She just about succeeded and it was a relief to see her fasten the buttons and pull up the hood.
