Alison and Alastair are off to see in the New Year with June and Gus in Watford.
It looks likely to be a wet start but it is warm for the time of year. Alison looks ravishing in red and is ready when Alastair rolls up in his Sprite. She has donned a lovely satinised dark blue cape and is all buttoned and hooded when he knocks on the door. Quickly he stows her case in the car and they are off.
Half an hour later they are at June's for a pre-dinner drink before walking to the Barley Mow.
A steady drizzle is falling as they set out looking very romantic in their capes with the hoods up and the men holding umbrellas over them until they reach the restaurant for the dinner dance. Both look super, Alison in red and June in black. The meal is sumptious and the wine like nectar. It is an effervescent atmosphere with their friends around them.
Then the meal over, and they are on the floor enjoying a variety of dances.
Just before midnight the music stops, the chimes of Big Ben come over the tannoy and they are singing Old Lang Syne. And enjoying the first kiss of the new year.
Dancing continues until 1 am and then celebrations are over.
Soon they reclaim their outerwear, the men helping the girls with their capes, watching them do up the buttons. They step outside, the rain has ceased and the moon is shining so hoods stay down but arms out of sight. They are in great spirits when they reach June's flat and are soon snogging away, each girl loving it when the buttons are undone. Soon capes are shed and they are on the sofas, happy in each other's company with a whisky mac as a nightcap. Soon they are abed....
The new day breaks dry and crisp and a late start is enjoyed. After a hearty breakfast they set off for Cassiobury Park to shake off the cobwebs. Both have donned tweed suits but are both in their capes with the hoods down and so protected from a cool breeze. They look lovely with the sun shining on them as they enjoy the scenery.
They stop for a pub lunch at the Crown, both looking very fetching with their capes undone, their smart tweed suits visible.
All vote it was a great start.
Too soon it is time to return to Willesden, June and Gus waving until they are out of sight.
