Joan's Green Moment

Joan had been born in the late 1950s and by the time she reached her teens, women in capes were everywhere.

She was soon one of them and, very good looking as she was, she soon had the boys after her. She found they loved 'undoing' her! - As did Jerry, who became her husband.    Sadly capes faded from the scene. But - fashions change.

By the middle of the 21st century their son and daughter had left the nest and Jerry had made a pile of money in the city. They had a nice house in Marlow and plenty of disposable income. One day Joan saw an advert about replica 1950s style rainwear and sent for it. She saw just what she wanted; an emerald green mackintosh cape.

A week or so later it arrived and Joan was over the moon. It was a breezy April day with some sunshine. She felt she must walk by the river - and why not give her new cape an airing?

She was ecstatic as she did up the buttons, leaving the top one undone to let in the air. She enjoyed her walk, meeting a few friends who told her how chic she looked though one cheekily asked her why she had her cape on when it wasn't raining! She said it was too nice to keep just for wet days. She looked simply lovely with the sun shining down on her and her arms peeping through the slits.

In the late afternoon Jerry came home and they decided to go for a stroll and a drink. Joan had by now changed into a short sleeved dress in a cream colour. Jerry told her she looked fantastic. She told him to shut his eyes and when she said he could open she had donned her cape. Jerry said she had super taste and hugged her. As they left the house she told him it was 'hands off' as her arms slid out of sight.

They wandered to the river, crossed the suspension bridge, and approached the 'Compleat Angler'. Jerry had booked a table for dinner so they went to the bar whilst waiting for their table. By now Joan had shed her cape, whisked away by an attendant, and soon they were sipping aperitifs. The meal that followed was superb and they finally relaxed with Irish Coffee.

Eventually it was time to go and Jerry dropped Joan's cape onto her shoulders. She beamed a smile as the did up the buttons and they made their way home.

As soon as they were in the house, memories flooded back as Jerry flung his arms round her and she struggled to get her arms out. It was blissful as Jerry finally undid the buttons and they collapsed on the sofa, Joan still in her cape! It was soon discarded...

Joan wore her cape a lot after that and Jerry loved to see her in it. When they went on holiday, she found it a splendid cover up to and from the beach. She also found it fun to wear open over a sundress.
