Indian Summer Moment

Back in the 1940s, I was at Taunton station awaiting the train bringing some distant relations who were spending a long weekend at our isolated farm. It was a lovely warm, sunny September day. Eventually the train pulled in and the passengers spilled out. All looked summery except one, a middle aged lady wearing a lovely pink mackintosh cape. She was also wearing a hat! Despite the heat all the buttons were fastened but she looked quite composed. I suspect she had lived in India and found the UK cool.

Seeing a lady in a mackintosh cape certainly was quite a sight on a hot, sunny day.
