A Farm Labourer's Daughter

Pat lived in a farm cottage with her stepfather and mother and her younger sister Jacky. Her stepfather had been a corporal in the army and was settling into civilian life. The cottage was located in the wilds of West Somerset with no public transport whatsoever.

She was in her teens, coming up 15, so was at Secondary Modern School. To get there, she had first to walk a mile or two to Treborough where a taxi awaited to take her and others to Roadwater, where they transferred to the school coach  to Williton. It was quite an exercise! The only consolation was, when going home, the last mile or two was downhill all the way.

Being in an area of high rainfall, meant plenty of wet days. For this reason, her stepmother took her shopping in Minehead for a new mac and she chose a mid green cape. She liked it so much that she never wanted to take it off. Each morning, rain or shine her stepmother insisted she wear it and as it was all dewy she was quite happy to do so. Her stepmother checked she had fastened all the buttons and the hood was up if raining. However Pat was quite happy to comply and told her younger sister that she loved being able to slide her arms out of sight. She was quite happy to keep on her cape when the sun came out and found by doing so, it turned on the boys. On the return run in the afternoon, she would put on her cape,, and the boys ribbed her. Even on sunny days she would normally stay 'done up', but when in the taxi to Treborough she would relax and undo the buttons. On leaving the taxi at Treborough, she would stand with the others with her cape undone showing her summer dress underneath and her slim bare arms peeping through the slits. Sometimes George would accompany her some of the way and to tease him she would do up all the buttons and withdraw her arms. When they reached a secluded copse she would fall into his arms and enjoy a 'snog', concluding with George 'opening her up'. Her stepmother allowed her to wear it undone on the way home.
