Bonfire night

At last the war is over and the first firework display since before is being held on the common.  George, who is now demobbed, and Marjorie are going to it. It is a cold, damp night and Marjorie is well padded in a thick sweater and tweed suit over which she has put on her green raincape. George, too, is well protected and has his large umbrella. A chill breeze is about too. 'Let's go,' says George as Marjorie fastens the last button and slides her arms out of sight. 'It's hands off tonight,' she says as they set off.

The show is superb with loads of rockets, roman candles and catherine wheels culminating in the bonfire being lit, the blaze lighting up the happy faces. As it dies down they make their way to the Rose and Crown and warm up with scotch and ginger ale. Marjorie is sparkling, and has lowered her hood but has decided to stay buttoned just to tease George. The sleeves of her red suit contrast well with her green cape. They are well-lubricated when the landlord calls 'Time, Ladies and Gentlemen, please' and they make their way to the door. Marjorie pulls up the hood and they stroll home, full of bonhomie. At last they are back in their home and are interlocked, Marjorie having been able to slide her arms out whilst George has dropped the hood. Soon they are kissing away and George is undoing the buttons. The night is young, plenty of time for more whisky and more slap and tickle.
