A Day at the Races
Jenny was very excited as she and Rod were going to the local point to point. It was a typical May day in the 1960s with rain in the offing. Jenny wasn't worried about that as she had invested in a 'top of the range' beige mackintosh cape which had a lining and a hood. She togged herself out in a colourful tweed suit and her boots, topping it with a deerstalker hat.
At last, Rod's TR3 grinds to a halt and in he comes. He too is looking'tweedy' and has a burberry with him. He asks Jenny if she is ready and nods as she slips on her cape. Rod tells her he hasn't seen it before and tells her he likes it.
Soon the TR3 is speeding towards the destination. As they go and park, the heavens open so it's umbrellas up and macks on, Jenny quickly fastens the buttons and off they go,Rod thoughtfully holding his big umbrella over Jenny so she can keeps her arms dry. Next a flutter on the tote and a stirring sight to see the horses galloping through the mud and slithering over the jumps.
Yes, Tuesday's Offer has won and they collect a tenner. They have a lovely afternoon, winning and losing as well as refreshing themselves in the Beer Tent with their friends. The ladies comment favourably on Jenny's cape, as by now she has undone it as the weather has improved. It is also a chance to reveal her smart suit.
The evening follows after arranging an RV with friends. They dine well at a restaurant near the sea, after which they dance. Soon after midnight, all make tracks and Rod drops Jenny's cape on her shoulders. As it is turning chilly she fastens the buttons, happily perched on the bucket seat snuggling inside her cape. Home at last, and on goes the kettle and out comes the whisky decanter. Soon Rod's arms are tightening around her and her arms have emerged to lock around him. They are lost in oblivion then Jenny senses the delicious sensation of her cape being undone and Rod's hands massaging her. They break off for tea and then a tot or two of scotch before collapsing on the sofa with the joys of the night to follow...
