Having someone throw a mackintosh in the bin, or dispose of one by burning, may strike many impermeaphiles in a totally negative way, but as a correspondant writes to remind me, some of us have a fascinatingly different response: it generates great excitement, the excitement that many associate with seeing a mackintosh handled, or watching as someone slips their mackintosh on.
