Club Foyer> Chillout Room >Rainwear towns
The claims of Todmorden to be a Rainwear Town are essentially twofold.
One is that from time to time it experiences serious flooding, when personal protection needs to be at its most impermeable. The other is John Kettley, who spent formative years here.
There is another thing. The science teacher at Todmorden Secondary School taught at different times two boys who went on, along entirely different routes, to both become Nobel Prizewinners, one for Physics and one for Chemistry. One was John Cockcroft. who in Manchester in the nineteen-thirties split an atom and launched the nuclear age, the other Geoffrey Wilkinson, who won half of a nobel prize for chemistry in 1973.
This speaks for an extraordinary concentration of intellectual power, such as is only generated in the normal course of nature by a well-fitting but generously cut militarily-styled mackintosh in a vibrant colour.
