Not so long ago, single-texture rubberised cotton or nylon - natural rubber rubberised - used to be really cheap, and made possible the Grasshopper , a cheap and charming mass-produced mac for street and bus and bike. Now rubberised fabrics are the reverse of cheap, and we have to make our Grasshoppers one at a time. We use the traditional simple pattern, and we use the real stuff. We use rubberised polyester, proofed in India with genuine natural rubber. The one on the right is made in slate-blue matte polyester - a warmer blue actually than comes across in the picture. The ones below are in the same material, but a warm brown - tan - in colour.
