I remember all my life enjoying a special relationship with rainwear - because
rainwear was always associated with doing things which otherwise would be forbidden.
Wearing rain boots meant jumping in puddles. And a plastic or rubber raincoat
meant getting dirty without being admonished.
And
I loved to play outside the house as I also loved rain and storm much more than
sunny days.
As time went by I was getting more adult and also more female. Fourteen is suddenly
too old for rain boots and raincoats. But I missed this feeling! So I often
borrowed my best friend's raincoat. She didn't want to wear it anymore because
it was pink PVC - reversable - with bear print on one side. She gave me it as
a present when I relocated to to my studies at UConn.
This silly childish pink slicker became my trademark and talisman even it has been a little bit too small.
At UConn I had a Roomie from Germany who possessed also a PVC coat. This one was yellow with a blue canvas lining. I loved it and borrowed it on many occassions till I found at GAP the one I'm wearing in the pics, which is now my favorite.
Wearing a raincoat in rain and storm is the true mixture between wilderness
and protection and I think there is nothing more relaxing.
