Hello Lorraine
Nice to be back again Lorraine and to offer some more info about riding macs and coats. It is good to see Imogen's comments about riding macks again.
If I may can I tell you a bit more about my experiences? My foray into riding clothes and riding goes back to late teenage and beyond. I think that the whole scene is very exciting with women dressed in all these speciality clothes and certainly one can come to appreciate the more female dominant side in relationships. This also of course enables the submissive side to play along and where two people can and do enjoy dressing up then a lot of good fun is generally had.
Imogen gives Harry Hall riding macs a high rating. I would agree with her and I must say that the ones I have been lucky enough to wear were a great comfort in all weathers.
The good fit of a riding mack is important and the full use of leg straps and the coat skirt is vital for good riding. Combine this with a good collar and storm flap well done up and you have a perfect situation to enjoy all eventualities.
As I progressed I also purchased, from the same Sadler, my first motorcycle riding coat. This was a Belstaff make and was a grey/fawn colour. It was a heavy waterproof gaberdine type exterior with a heavy cloth and wool like lining. In the lining was were leg straps and a tummy pad for elevating the coat skirt to various tension levels fixed under the arm holes to prevent rain soaking around the crutch area when riding.
The collar was very generous and fixed comfortably in a high postion for extra protection.
My friend also liked to dress in this fashion so we saved up and then purchased the same outfit's for her. It used to take us twenty minutes to dress properly in these two coats.
First we would where silk type scarves tightly around our necks and lower faces and then dress in each coat and adjust what we felt would be good for a comfortable riding position. Then the top coat would go on and again the same procedures would apply. When we were motorcycling there were waterproof trousers and heavy boots of course and protective headgear.
For riding out of stables we would also don our riding jodpurs and boots and riding hats.
The fun we had was immense and those memories are today just as vivid and enjoyable as they were at the time... quite a few years ago. We came to learn that to be dressed correctly was not only important but rather a ritual for which we became well know in our immediate locale.
We always would encourage anyone attempting to ride to dress correctly and enjoy the comfort that goes with these pleasures.
Thanks again Imogen; we think alike in so many ways and enjoy our riding mac experiences. I wish it was as easy to do the same things all over again!
Would anyone like to co-write some articles on these subjects? If so let's try through Lorraine's kind help to do it!
Look forward to hearing any comments back and writing with any interested people.
Thanks again Lorraine, your website goes from strength to strength.
Phil
Hi Phil
Thanks for your appreciation - but if it's nice it's only because nice people like you write in with such interesting things to say.
It would be great if you could persuade people to imagine more exciting things, and tell us about them!
