Hi Lorraine,

My earliest mackintosh memory (and one of the most appealing) occurred when I was about four years old. There were quite a few girls and not too many boys on our housing estate and, as I was so young the girls had to look after me - its the way it was in those free and innocent days!

One day I was in one of the houses with five or six of the girls (they must have been between 5 and 8 years old) and came across a mackintosh which was in green satinised cotton with an attached square/box style hood. I remember already having an attraction for mackintoshes and, with my child like innocence I think I asked if I could wear it without any clothes on.

Whether or not that was the case, I definitely remember the girls surrounding me, standing me on a bed and with much giggling removing my clothes and dressing me in the mackintosh, buttoned, belted and hooded, before leading me around the house by the hand.

They all found it highly amusing, and of course I was in absolute heaven - oh, for five ladies to take me in hand now and repeat the experience!

Given my young age goodness knows when I developed my love of rubber and mackintoshes. Could it have been from birth, or is it really an acquired taste developed in those first months or years of life?

Either way, my only regret is that I was not old enough during the 50's to view, sample and, above all, buy some of those glorious mackintoshes that were the standard rainwear of the day.

I have every intention of buying some from your retro range and just have to work on my wife a bit more first!

Regards,

Hi

Thanks very much for this revealing memory of yours!

I know a lot of people hark back to the times when proper mackintoshes were all over the place, but I 'm not sure it isn't better for them to be the rare exotic specimens they are today ... Doesn't that make it all MUCH more exciting? But having missed the glory days I don't really know what I talking about, it's true...

Anyway, we have some new pics (eg) of our Retro range. Not sure you will be able to resist much longer...

Thanks again

LE
