Rubber boots on YouTube

You've probably seen the clips on YouTube.

I've discovered a very strange thing, which is that when people do the very thing you've fantasised over, it doesn't work! What I mean is, when you are made to ogle - when what they are doing on the screen is nothing but showing you their boots - walking up and down, and down and up, just for the purpose of you looking at them - modeling them I suppose - then it doesn't really soften anything for me...

I like best the ones where serious classic rubber boots are being worn unselfconsciously - as they are by Carenza Lewis (at least it looks like Carenza to me) in this clip from the TV TimeTeam series.

Almost everything is right for me here - she has a body to die for, she chooses the best conceivable colour for Hunters - that smart, understated, navyish blue - and she is wearing them not for their own sake but because they make sense in the context of a muddy 'dig'.

Of course we all know why she is really wearing them - because they do have that wonderful enigmatic mysterious charge of rubber as clothing. But the 'deniability' makes all the difference! It's just a person going about her ordinary business (which happens to be presenting a tv show) - for which, we permit ourselves to think, in the circumstances, rubber boots are entirely sensible.

The camera has to show her walking up and down as she moves from trench to trench, and of course it couldn't do that without showing her boots; and when she has to jump down into the trench of course the camera has to record the play of the legs in their smart navy uniform, catching the heavy creasing of the rubber as a sharper movement of the ankle occasionally pulls the normally sober boot into a momentary smile.

Four pairs of yellow Hunters here. With a terrific plot line!!

"Comes with a Lethal recommendation: 'By way of light relief – this is wonderfully funny especially if you are old enough to remember Public Information Films and/or Pathe News at the cinema. Viewers born in the ‘baby boom’ may really enjoy this ..." - Harry Lethal

Lilac Hunters are sort of paraded here, but still.
All smiles
