Robin at the Dentist

Dear Lorraine,

The connection between experiences in the dentist's chair and rainwear is probably stronger with the older generation because present day procedures are different.

I had the pleasure of "having gas" when I was 10 years old and I remember enjoying the sensation of breathing deeply through the rubber mask. In those days rubber aprons, bibs and sheets were generally used for waterproof protection of clothing. Even some surgery floors were rubber.

I vividly recall the effect of being covered with a lightweight red rubber sheet which rustled and had a distinctive aroma. The nurse secured the mack around my neck and it extended down to my feet. She then carefully tucked it around my back and under my thighs which tended to restrict any movement of my arms and legs. As I was wearing short trousers the feel of the smooth cold mack against my bare legs was sensational, although at the time I did not fully understand what was happening to me. No doubt nervous tension, the sense of restriction and submission, and the gentle reassurances of the nurse by my side, added to the erotic situation. I attribute the experience entirely for my subsequent interest and attraction to mackintoshes.
