My prep school headmaster and his wife both wore traditional full length off-white riding mackintoshes, and I soon developed a fascination with their smell and swish. I cannot explain why, but a mackintosh still provides comfort and security well beyond the matter of staying dry... silly, I know, but there is a potent urge there that will be with me till I die.
