Dear Lorraine
My wife had a boutique for many years and would stock single texture fashion macs from a number of suppliers, including:-
David Marsh. For example 'Exeter' (gents) and 'Sandringham' (ladies).
Mackintosh of Cumbernauld
Raincheetah. These were more fashionable and colourful than DM - and also less expensive. Some were seconds ie returned with minor defects - and there were some famous labels inside that had to be cut out.
Rainmac. Good range of ST macs. 'Knightsbridge' (ladies).
For a time I was travelling abroad a lot on business and a mac like this can be a useful and pleasant companion.
Riding macs were quite different of course, nothing to do with fashion. In fact they were part of the Army uniform (in the UK) - for officers: mine came from Gieves.
Yours sincerely,
Richard
Dear Richard
Thanks! I know the other names you mention quite well, but can't quite get a handle on Raincheetah - is there / was there a single rainwear company with this name, or several? And is there a popgroup with the same name? Or a song? I've found one nice rainweary ad at any rate (below), maybe this was the supplier your wife dealt with?
Best
Lorraine
