The history of the raincoat |
One of the major players, still in business as Macintosh with its shop in Burlington Arcade and factory in Cumbernauld. A proper write-up overdue!
Keith alerts us to this:
Australian historian Geoffrey Blainey wrote a history of Dunlop in Australia titled "Jumping Over the Wheel". For some strange reason he states that Dunlop never made rubber rainwear. He also describes rubber rainwear in negative terms, including calling it "unhygenic".
The details appear to be:
Geoffrey Blainey, Jumping Over the Wheel, Allen & Unwin, St. Leonards, N.S.W., 1993, 336pp.
Haven't got hold of it yet.
Thanks!
Hazel
