Early transports

Dear Lorraine

Reading a story on your site about mackintosh fascination I seemed to remember in my childhood an experience with prams.

Although I grew out of it in my late teens I often wondered if anybody else had experienced the same exciting feelings.

When I was about 3 or 4 years old, I used to love the PVC smell of being in a pram or pushchair. Later on when I was about 9 years old. I lost my shoes in the park and a lady offered to push me home in her daughter's pram/pushchair. When I got into the pushchair, the smell and feel of the PVC aroma triggered intense exciting feelings. I thought it unusual but have never been able to tell anyone.

I remember that after that I used to play with old prams secretly. We used to make bogies as kids with old prams. But I used to like sitting in the pram body for

another reason.

It would be interesting to discover if any body else has had an experience with pvc pram/ push chairs.

Dear PVC

One thing I find quite fascinating in what you say is the fact that something must be common between rubber and pvc - and yet it's not at all obvious what it is. My hobbyhorse is that it must be to do with smell - yet pvc and rubber do not seem to me to smell at all similar - ?

I would love to prompt other people to write in, but you ask me not to put up your letter...Any chance of putting (anything like) it up - over a pseudonym?
