From 1979
Dear Lorraine,
I was a student in Wales in 1979.
I used to ride a bike to uni from the student housing zone and went to a mountaineering shop that was having a sale to buy a cagoul to wear on the bike. I bought a Henry Lloyd parka.
It was knee length and had a generous hood - made of rubber with sealed seams. It had drawcords at the face waist and hem. It was dark green as parkas used to be.
It was cold to the touch. And it smelt the wonderful smell of bicycle inner tubes.
Riding the bike up the steep hill to the student house made you wetter inside the parka than wearing nothing in a monsoon!
This parka became my night time indulgence. Alas a girl friend of the time thought
I was nuts to wear it all the time: so she lost it for me.
1979
What a nasty sting in the tail! Makes you wonder who's the nutter - you or your "friend" who threw away something you really liked!
