Anne-Marie Beretta

In 1974 French fashon designer Anne-Marie Beretta created a long and roomy cape, rubberised on the outside, featuring armslits and detachable hood.

It was available in brown or black.

I saw about fourteen girls and women wearing this cape in Paris in the period 1974 - 1976, particulary in the St Germain des Prés district; and one young woman in London around 1979.

Photo on the left comes from Marie-France (or Elle ?) in 1974. Behind it is one taken in my garden.

Galeries Lafayette

In the same year the Galeries Lafayette offered a similarly long and capacious cape - but rubberised on the inside. It featured a deep hood and had no collar. This was availble in beige and black.

The two photos of this cape were taken in my garden. I saw many women and girls wearing this rustling, exciting cape in Paris between 1974 and 1977, especially in the Quartier Latin.
