I wish to join in the debate on rubber and from my point of view the mackintosh.
For me it is basically the smell that has such a hold over me - so much so that before I buy a garment I need samples in order to get the strong smell of mackintosh I need. I have a wonderful jacket from Aquamac (sorry about the mention!) which has such a smell that I wear it to the office every day - you should see the looks in summer !!
This stems from a childhood dental experience I am sure. As several of your correspondents have noted a great many women are turned off by the smell and that is a great shame.
Luckily for me my partner likes me to make use of my addiction in bedroom games as I become almost uncontrollable when dressed up in a smelly mack.!!
As I have only just been connected to the internet I would hope to be able to buy from you - can you suggest a great garment ?

Sorry to be so late in thanking you for your very interesting letter, which I will put up asap.
By coincidence, someone else has written to me recently making the dental connection! This is a new thought to me, and very suggestive it is. I would love to know if other enthusiasts trace anything back to the dentist chair and that overpowering rubber of the anaesthetist's mask... It would be one thing we could be very thankful to dentists for - my own experience is that they are not much good for the teeth!

I did not dream that you would reply - the subject matter seemed so bizarre !!
It was not just the mask - although that was glorious enough . The dentist, Dr. D was also wearing a rubber apron and placed a rubber sheet over me - the whole experience was amazing. I did not tell my Mum . firstly because it did not occur to me and secondly as I enjoyed it so much - I wanted and got further appointments !!
