Hi there

I found your web-site by accident and was amazed. The photos of your 'Furness' coat is fantastic. I didn't think anyone made coats like that ant more. I do have a problem, though. Believe it or not I have a 'button phobia'. How much would it cost to make up the same style but with stud fastening, preferably over a zip.
What kind of lining do you fit and is the hood lined?
Sorry about so many questions. oh yes, do you do it mens fit (with the flap opening the opposite way?)

best regards

S

Hi S

Glad you found us!

Yours points:

Believe it or not I have a 'button phobia'. How much would it cost to make up the same style but with stud fastening, preferably over a zip.

I will ask the workshop about studs, but I don't think they work with this material - they create too much pull. Have you thought of velcro? And I think there would be a problem with a zip - you can't get them long enough for a full-size raincoat. Anyway I will consult. (Frog fastenings?)

What kind of lining do you fit and is the hood lined?

We can put in a polyester lining as an extra (35 GBP), and if fact with polyurethane we recommend a lining, to make it easy to slip the coat on and off.

Hood is extra (30 GBP) but yes, we would put in a polyester lining.

Sorry about so many questions. oh yes, do you do it mens fit (with the flap opening the opposite way?)

Yes, no prob.

I also tried to reply to the following, only my e-mails bounced back:

Now in contact - thanks!

Greetings Lorraine,

I have been looking to purchase a red tartan rubber lined raincoat, with out luck. Perhaps you could help me out ? I have been a fan for many years . Probably having many colours and styles. These mainly from the U K . There was a busines in Hong Kong GOODWILL TRADING CO they had detachable hoods only around $25 each.

Kind Regards from the South TONY

Hi Tony

Sorry, wish we could help but we can't. We don't have any of this classic tartan material and have never had even a whiff of it. If you ever hunt it down we would be thrilled to know - getting hold of top-quality rubbersied materials is increasingly difficult as you must know.

Cruelty

Sherman completed the questionniare on the site

Hi Sherman

Just to say thanks for your trouble.

You say would like to find a woman who can combine wearing a mackintosh with a mean streak, and I have to say it's a rare combination in my experience. Usually it makes you soft as putty. I know one or two people are are just mean though - but who might be prepared to put on a nice mackintosh even so. Difficult to reply properly like this though!

PVC

Vicky completed the questionnaire on the site.

Hi Vicki

Just to say Thank you very much for completing the questionnaire on my site - ages ago now, sorry.

Most of my visitors put mackintosh stuff at the top of their list so an enthusiast for PVC is specially interesting.

Don't suppose you know where the best quality pvc (or polyurethane?) is to be got? I have a trickle of enquiries for us to make something up in pvc and I never know where to turn really. Just now someone has seen the film The Secretary, which has someone wearing a nice pvc cape, and they want a copy of that made...

Anyway, just to thank you, really. Very pleased you've got a decent understanding special friend! (Rare, don't you think?)

Best wishes

Lorraine

Curious

Dear Lorraine

I am a riding mac enthusiast and i have enjoyed reading the recent letters on your site from other riding mac fans.
In your "Rainwear in Films" feature there is a photo of Nicole Maurey in her superb riding mac taken from the film "Me and the Colonel". At the head of your "What's New" feature the same photo appears, but Nicole Maurey's face has been "replaced" by that of another girl.
Can you explain this?

Curious

Dear Curious

It's a long way round for me to answer your e-mail like this!

Not that I've got an answer. All I know is there are just not enough lovely riding macs around.

I just got hold of the 'Horse and Hound' Yearbook 1950-51 in high hopes that there would be at least some pics of macs there, but absolutely not!!

Pics and contributions on this wonderful theme more than welcome!

Best wishes

Buckingham adapted?

Hi,

I'm interested in the Buckingham coat. Just a few questions first please.

When you ask for the chest size, is that the actual size of the garment you need, my actual chest measurement or my normal coat size that I would buy from a shop?

We ask for the measurement to be taken when you are not wearing anything bulky like a jacket. Just over a shirt, say.

Also are any changes to the basic pattern possible?
I would prefer a wider front overlap than is normally supplied. Is this possible?

I think this would be OK - have to check with the workshop.

Can the coat be lined?

This would be unusual but I think OK. What material? It would have to be very light. We use tricel for polyurethane coats.

Can this coat have a neck strap made?

Yes, I think so, but I would have to be clear exactly what you have in mind.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks. Look forward to being able to write to you!

Sale!

Dear Lorraine,

The T K MAX sales will be starting in a few weeks in their stores throughout England. They sell last years unsold items from the U S. Many items are marked down 75% from their original price. I have bought a number of coats and parkas I wear from these shops. One of my favourites is a Spiewek snorkel hooded parka three quarter length. It is made of rubberised cotton has a lovely aroma and is very heavy and warm. I wear it with the hood up all the time.I have bought in past years and still wear a gorgeous heavy Burberry style trench coat. An ankle length wool coat with a deep hood with a face cover and hooded leather jackets. Often for thirty or forty pounds.

They have a large store in Manchester but many in other towns in England.

I love your site

N

I'm so sorry to be so hopelessly behind - you wrote to me ages ago with some very valuable information about wonderful parkas and other coats being in the sales. Holidays and shop stuff have kept me horribly busy.

I've missed the boat (must have!). Oh!

(And I didn't pass on your tip.)

Maybe these things are not limited to the sales? Could I put up a note anyway?

So sorry.

Love you for loving the site!

Nile Queen

Please advise how Nile Queen cape fastens and whether the helmet is integral or detatchable.

The helmet is normally integral, which means you pull the whole thing over your head - no fastenings. As a special we can make the helmet separate. You pull that on, then pull the cape over your head.

It's extraordinary!!

Ladies mackintosh

I wish to purchase a ladies rubber mackintosh and would like some advice.
Could you suggest a suitable style and advise me of materials and colours
available? - my preferences are :-

Traditional type of ladies mackintosh

Must have taped seams

If possible - an attached hood

Look forward to hearing from you

For style I would suggest Lady Harper with its generous skirt and easy fit - a great favorite. Material could be rubberised satin (awaiting new stock at the mo though) which is terrifically glamorous and wonderful to wear or the more understated rubberised cotton.

Colours are difficult without knowing the coloration of the wearer - hair and skin tone - but the satin in emerald green is very good if it doesn't cross anything. In cotton we have red and fawn, depending how traditional you want to be. The red I think is very attractive, again if it doesn't clash.

There is a supplementary price for an attached hood, but it can be done, no prob.

Let me know what you think.

Victorian dress

Could you make a victorian dress in black satin size 16 ankle length and with a hood and what would it cost approximately?

Basically Yes, for about £300.

Black rubberised satin is not in stock at the mo - expected but not actually in. We could probably get a small quantity from elsewhere at retail prices but this would push the price up.

It would be a fabulous material for a stiff Victorian creation, but you would get a softer drape with rubberised polyester, which we do have available. Would this be an option?

Here is one place to look for a pattern, if you don't have one:

http://www.patternsoftime.com/index.html

Eg: as attached.

Let me know what you think!

Do you have a shop?

Does Lakeland Elements have a shop where mackintoshes can be tried on?

No, we don't have a shop but you are welcome to call and see (and try on) what we have on the rail. We try and keep examples of most styles, and of course you can see the materials. We are in Lancaster UK. When you are in a position to come this way, give us a ring and we will find a convenient time and explain exactly where we are!

Trenchcoats that have lived a little

Hi Lorraine,
You recently helped me to find a site with ladies dressed in trenchcoats, I found it thanks, but it only really photos of ladies from catalogues etc. Very nice but a little "tame" Do you know anywhere I can look up with a little bit more "soiled" and grubby Burberry rainwear. I am open to all suggestions.

Would it also be possible to send you a small explicit story of an encounter with a lady and myself dressed in Burberry trenchcoats. It is extremely raunchy but I am sure loads of people will like it.

Thanks

Did I put you in touch with my friend Ron? He is the one who knows most about trenchcoat sites to my knowledge.

I can't think of anything else to suggest - except downloading a clean trench pic and grubbing it up youself using Paint Shop Pro or something!

Thanks for asking about the story. I would love to look at it myself, but won't be able to put it up - school rules apply, I'm afraid. But there must be a million places which would be v. glad to have a raunchy story - ?

How to pay, Price of Lady Harper

hi!

I'm interested in the Lady Harper, but its not clear to me how much the coat is. Where I live - the currency is in dollars here...so my question is Do you ship anywhere?

Yes, we ship all over.

We have now fixed to receive payment via PayPal, so the mechanism of payment shouldn't be a problem (just the size of the bill - the exchange rate isn't helpful...)

Lady Harper in single textured rubberised cotton is £300 plus £32 shipping. There's a supplement for extra size, or if you want specials.

(To use PayPal you have to register (free) but you send your credit card details to them not us - which makes it safer.)

https://www.paypal.com/

Sorry the price wasn't clear from the site. We've had a go at making it clearer and put in a price calculator - hope that helps.
