Rajkumar comes to town! And just in time…
He offers rainwear that really works, just as downpours in Britain here get truly feral!
With years of experience in the monsoon country of West Bengal, he brings to London Fashion Week a range of trenchmacs and jackets which offer very serious protection with plenty of Geist. (French: Je ne sais quoi.)
Vikas Banka is the Main Man, Managing Director of the Rajkumar company in the old Raj capital Kolkata. Banka wants to make his things without trashing the planet. So he uses natural latex for his proofing, one of the modern world’s greatest natural renewable resources – it comes direct from the tree, which is left unharmed to be tapped year after year after year. Teamed with locally grown cotton, it can produce protective clothing with impressive eco-credentials. And if you specify organic cotton they can reach A++.
He shows a generously sized waterproof cape for example in organically-grown natural jute, proofed with latex, and presented here in dye-free white. He has pure white jackets in latex-proofed organic cotton.
But latex proofing, as all the world already knows, can also do noir. And Rajkumar shows how! His edgy black rubber trenchmacs may be friends of the planet but that doesn’t necessarily include you or me…
But, don’t worry, he also relaxes into brilliant colour. A short boxy jacket in warming red, lined in black, looks great fun. And a trench in bright shiny yellow rubber-proofed satin looks just A++.
