Years of Teenage Torment

Dear Lorraine,

I was very pleased to find your site.

I've  been enthralled by the rubber mackintosh for many years. My formative years of teenage torment were when lots of women wore them. Nothing has emphasized the alluring movement of a woman more than a thin bouncy rubber mac neatly belted, and with that rippling noise they made with every move and the smell of rubber mingling with their perfume they quite honestly used to scare me to death.

Different types of girls wore different macs too, or so it seemed. The quiet nice girl would wear a soft blue mac, the bright extravert a yellow one, and the man-eater a glossy black mac.

Such memories. You meet a new girl at a dance, she turns you on. You dare to ask if you can walk her home, she says Yes, you're waiting for her to come from the cloakroom, and then you hear that noise, your heart's pounding, she's mackintoshed...

Incidently, photos now are so important, have you thought of digging out the mail order books of the 50's and early 60's. They were full of the most wonderful macs beautifully photographed. They must be available somewhere.

One more thing, your House of Correction theme is interesting. This tie up between rubber and SM is interesting and emotionally rewarding which is fascinating. I've studied this for a long time and I've realised that I've fallen in love with every damsel in distress since Pearl White, who was I assure you a bit before my time. Lastly, for various reasons I write. Would you like a story? Nice to have found you.

R.M.

Dear RM

I'm so sorry, your very nice letter got into the wrong pile and I don't have any recollection of replying. Oh dear.

Anyhow, very glad you found us!

I would love a story - at any rate for myself! But maybe for the site? The thing is we have to keep to School Rules, as you may have noticed, and this might cramp your style, I don't know .....

Meanwhile though can I put up your letter? People would be very glad to read it. Maybe it would be easy for you to expand and introduce us to some of the other macintoshes you have known ....

With best wishes, do forgive me,

Lorraine

PS Yes a good idea about those old catalogues. It's just time to search them out really and get them ready for the site. It's on my list! Incidentally, I don't think 'being in the trade' helps at all... All the firms that might respond to that are long gone. I think you are right they will be in libraries here and there and it just needs someone to keep asking the question and follow up....
