Dear Lorraine,
I don"t know if the following question has ever been asked in your letter section before: Why is it in today's society that it is only acceptable by the masses to wear a mac if it is raining... that is if they wear a mac at all?
Seems to me the "in thing" now is too get wet. Is there a new fetish - getting wet and looking bedraggled?
Looking back over the years.... women out shopping... men off too work or off to a football match... children off too school or playing outside... What did they all have in common?
They all wore macs.
Including the children in their gaberdine raincoats... Worn not just because they were part of the part of the school uniform but as a sensible outer garment.
I remember part of my school uniform in the dull days of winter... irrespective of whether it was raining or not you had to wear your gaberdine raincoat... and if we went on a school trip (we never went on many) the rule was 'no mac, no trip'.
No wonder I got to love my gaberdine raincoat and that started me off with the strong attraction I have now to all types of macs.
I wear macs regularly outdoors whether it's wet or not - for comfort... Yes!
Fellow enthusiasts will know the buzz I get - as with hands in pockets I feel the texture of the mac. It may be nylon, or plastic or actually whatever takes my fancy.
Will we ever see a turnaround I wonder, with everyone wearing macs again?
I have to admit I have a great special fondness for macs designed for ladies - and in fact, yes, most of my macs (for indoor wearing) are ladies'. I also look at macs being modelled in catalogues.
Not expensive compared with some being offered on the High Street! And I imagine how nice it would be too see a young lady in one ...
Sorry... I am in my little world of dreams... a lot happier there when it comes too mac wearing.
Peter
