Hi Lorraine
Thought the story of Rosemary would amuse you.
Rosemary was a brand new assistant matron at the prep school at Weston-Super-Mare which I attended in 1949. She was a refreshing change from others who were before her as she was only 19 and a very pretty girl.
However, she got quite upset when some of us seniors (12+ yr olds) ragged her. Her colleagues said we were horrible.
She was quite a smart dresser and when it rained she wore a lovely tartan red mac, fully buttoned and tightly belted. She looked fantastic. One of the newer masters, Roger, was quite keen on her and I think they dated.
One sunny, mild day in October I had to have an x-ray at the hospital and Rosemary was detailed to escort me. To my delight she wore her lovely mackintosh, tightly belted and buttoned to the neck. She looked terrific. At the hospital we were directed to the waiting area and despite the warmth of the place, Rosemary kept her mac belted and buttoned. A few admiring glances were thrown in her direction.
After it was over we walked back to school. The best part was that I missed several lessons!
The school which was strict (I was caned 7 times in 10 terms) closed down in the early 1970s.
Dear John
The best part??
