I've seen the latest correspondence on the site on rubberised macs being visible in other parts of the globe. This is absolutely accurate. I'd recommend a trip to Bucharest for this (but not much else!) I went recently and was amazed as I don't think I'm old enough to have had a full UK experience of rubberisation. I grew up at the end of it!! Until I bought my own rubberised mac I thought my memory was playing tricks with me. Had my Mother's coat really made all that noise and stink when I was a child? Had those other ladies I had encountered really been as noisily coated and rubber-fragranced as I also remembered?
In Bucharest, when I was there, there was no shortage of rubber macs. I worked with an interpreter one day, and noticed a girl sussurrussing her way past us. I asked the interpreter where you could get a coat like that, because it wasn't easy in England. She gave a fairly flat response as follows.....
"In a shop!"
Well thanks for that love...!
After a brief pause she told me that she had one like it at home... Why oh why wasn't she wearing it?
