Club Foyer>Rainwear Letters

At the Garden Party

Hi Lorraine,

Lorraine

Thanx for superb website... I have many startlingly similar experiences to the ones variously described in your letters. I wonder how this could be except it must be ingrained in our culture...

My question is that in your file Charnock Room there is a picture of a garden party and the girl sitting on the right really caught my attention as I'm sure many others'. She looks very much like a young Vivian Leigh but Im sure she is not her. Within the bounds of your protocol can you shed any information however trite it may be?

Thanx for all you do

Hi!

Sorry, this got into the wrong folder!  You have probably found the answer to your query by now...

Some will know exactly, but I'm fairly sure this still came from a Newsreel produced for showing in cinemas by someone like Pathé.   The story was how newly available fabrics (early fifties) were being used to give a new bright look to rainwear. The clip was available on the net I think on the British Pathe site but I can't find it now ... But there are other things. French Rainwear Fashions and just plain Rainwear (probably the nicest?) for example.   Macs in Manchester promises much but they have put up the wrong clip. Pathe tic?

Thanks for nice comments - much appreciated.

The garden picture is there after all, sorry.   The clip is called Rainwear Fashions.   The model though appears to be someone other than Vivian Leigh.   Information supplied by Capelia Mackintosh - many tnanks.
