Innuendo III
The first part of the interview dealt with Judith's CV and although she felt well qualified for investigative reporting she sensed there was another reason why Max wanted her on his staff. This was confirmed when he started to explain he would want to work closely with him on special assignments involving undercover jobs, but he assured her she would always be well protected. There is a wide range of protection available and she would have to make use of this. Roleplay may be necessary in certain situations and he warned her some characters would not hesitate to penetrate her cover. Generous clothing expenses would be allowed for special functions. All this was nothing new to Judith and she understood exactly what he was talking about. Perhaps he noticed her bored expression because suddenly he said "Lets have a ten minute break". The sub-editor led her out of the room, leaving him gazing at her chair as if in a trance.
When Judith returned she walked across the room and reached down to gather up her green satin raincoat which must have slithered off the back of the chair she was sitting in. As she draped it over her arm she stared at Max saying "I have decided to withdraw my application. I enjoy working freelance with my partner Johnathan and together we have plenty contacts with undercover work. I intend to keep it that way thank you". Max, flushed in the face and with his hands firmly covering his lap, said nothing as she left.
That evening Judith discussed the interview with Johnathan and as she stood smiling into the bedroom mirror she said, "Poor Max, all he was interested in was to find out what makes our partnership so successful". From behind, with his arms around her waist, he looked over her shoulder into the mirror and whispered "Darling you look gorgeous in green".
