Dear Lorraine
I refer to the letter I sent to you earlier in the year about how disappointing it was not to see any recent letters about schoolgirl gabardine mackintoshes and school uniforms and my request to Robin and Brenda and others to recall their schooldays and write to you. Then last month "John", wrote a message in Le Blog asking that Fay, Abigail, and Pauline would consider putting pen to paper about further gabardine encounters.
How refreshing it was to see a new name Chrissie, in your July club letter writing about her daughter and school gabardines. I was thrilled to see that Chrissie' s
daughter was made to wear a navy gabardine for school and work and how Chrissie purchased a brown and a bottled green gabardine from e-bay. It was interesting to read that her daughter prefers to wear the brown gabardine for leisure whilst Chrissie prefers the bottled green gabardine. I myself enjoy wearing my green gabardines as I feel that bottled green is the most appropriate schoolgirl gabardine colour. It was also
interesting to read that Chrissie' s daughters gabardines are long enough to cover the top of her Wellington boots, which she obviously wears, how wonderful!
I am so glad that I was able to purchase a very large number of schoolgirl gabardine mackintoshes through my mother as I have written before and I still have many which I have not as yet worn, as the gabardine mackintosh continues to be the only "coat" that I ever wear and nearly always with my Wellington boots.
Last year I was staying at a Hotel for a meeting, when a lady came up to me and asked me if I was called Abigail, because I was wearing, despite it being a sunny day, one of my navy gabardines, buttoned correctly right up to the top and a pair of black shiny Wellington boots. This lady recognised me form my letters sent to your rainwear club, Lorraine. She very kindly said that she enjoyed my letters regarding the wearing of school uniforms and that I always fastened every button on my blazer and gaberdine and she decided to purchase a school blazer for her general wear, but had not had the courage to wear her blazer in public. We were both going out for a meal and I insisted that she wore a school blazer and gabardine. I invited her to my room, and let her wear my bottled green blazer which I was going to wear at the meeting the next day. I helped her on with the blazer and made sure that the three buttons were fastened. I then helped her on with my green gabardine and again made sure that all the buttons including the top button were fastened. And I then insisted that we went out to eat dressed as two schoolgirls! Unfortunately, my Wellington boots were too small for her so she had to wear a pair of shoes. We both enjoyed the evening and she couldn't thank me enough for making her wear school uniform again. She said that she felt wonderful all evening. I sincerely hope that she is now a convert to wearing school uniforms and gabardines with Wellington boots.
I can only repeat what I wrote earlier in the year, come on Robin, Brenda and other writers, let's have more school uniform stories.
Lots of love
Abi
