The holy grail of macs

Dear Lorraine,

I thought that I was the only person who liked the old gabardene school macs.

I am wrong I see after reading that others also like them.

Although my first love is for the old rubber-lined cotton mackintoshes, I have always liked girls gabardene school macs.

I had a blue mac for school as a youngster but I didn't like it at the time, mainly because it was a boy's mac and I only liked girls'.

I have always wanted a girl's mac but never found one. I had resigned myself to the fact that they had all gone the same way as the rubber-lined mackintoshes. However, looking on ebay a couple of weeks ago guess what I found? - Yes, a lovely girl's green gabardene school mac with a hood. It said it dated from the 1970s and was in really great condition. I bid on it and to my delight I won! And it's goregous.

My only regret is that its not rubber-lined as that would be to me the holy grail of macs.

I wonder if anyone out there still has theirs?

You're a very lucky fella!

I think if you ever want that rubber-lining though you will probably have to come to us! And, alas spend a fortune. Rubber dies the death while gaberdine goes on and on, aging yes, but with what dignity!
