Street trials

Once a mackintosh has undergone rigorous testing off-shore there is of course a regime of street trials to be gone through. The mackintosh is worn without a hood for three weeks underneath Blackpool Tower and a ratio struck between wetness of head and wetness of body. Only if this figure exceeds unity is the garment awarded the Mackintosh Council's "Fit for Purpose" label and certification confirmed. (The Tower protects against lightening strike, taking the powerful charge generated by a genuine mackintosh up from the street and releasing it harmlessly into the upper atmosphere.)
