Barbara's Explanation

Dear Lorraine

Good afternoon from Sweden!

The question you have answered so well using Keital's very fetching photo, leaves unanswered the most significant reason why so many of us find excitement and pleasure from rubber mackintoshes, the erotic stimulation we share from wearing them and watching other people wearing them. It is only a short step from there to including the black rubber boots or waders that complement them. These garments must be the most powerful aphrodisiacs that mackintosh lovers can experience.

Apart from legislative restrictions which may restrict you, you leave it discreetly to the reader to reach his or her own conclusions skillfully avoiding the main course.

I have lived a long life and have had a passion for black mackintoshes and rubber boots/waders ever since I was a small boy. I cannot recall the first time I felt the frantic excitement and the insatiable need to put my mackintosh on and let the faint scent of rubber, the rippling and rustling sound it made when I moved, all reaching me in one single direction, rendering me incapable of resisting the urge, this wonderful force that has always taken me over and led inevitably to a powerful conclusion.

But is it not so that the hosts of people of both sexes that find stimulation from mackintoshes all have their separate segments when it comes down to what it is that causes this so common reaction. The proliferation of toys, types of rainproof materials, from the associations with normal sex to the total involvement with the garments themselves, the causes are unfathomable. I do not even know if anyone has ever tried. Freud perhaps ? Perhaps you did the right thing. Keeping to generalities is often best.

With waterproof regards

Dear KR

Lovely to have your letter, and it doesn't matter that I don't really know which comment you are responding to!

I don't think there's a particular shortage of attempts to explain the phenomenon you describe - it's just that none of them are at all convincing (imho). My own current thought is that it may be down to a cross-over between sensory channels...

We would all like to hear your own best thoughts - ?

Lorraine
