Dear Lorraine
Here are copies of the old Australian Dunlop
advertisements I promised.
They date from the early thirties. I hope you find them an interesting
insight to the "fashions" and some explanation of the
reaction you have stirred up from us older SBR fans from Australia.
The Boy's "Revertex" is the black rubber raincoat I
referred to in my letter
and it was produced from the thirties until the late sixties
- I got my last one in the early seventies before they vanished.
It was as common as the school gabardines you would have grown
up with. The Men's "Revertex" is the one my boyfriend
(now husband) enjoyed when he left school. Many a fun cuddle
were enjoyed with him in his and me in mine. They really were
fabulous raincoats and the kids of today who seem to hate wearing
rainwear of any kind just don't know the hidden enjoyments such
garments gave the teenagers of my day. I can't remember the women's
raincoat of the same rubberised material - it was probably effected
by fashion changes and probably did not last beyond the thirties.
I would love one now however. Well enjoy your look into yesteryear.
I love your site and will save up for a new SBR for my husband
and me when the Aussie Dollar recovers somewhat.
