Why do I always have to wear my little mac?

Polly wearing her mini-mackintosh If it's raining, of course.

But when the day is simply overcast, and I could surely fold it over my arm, or hitch it like a cape informally over my shoulders? Instead I have to do up the buttons, and buckle the belt tight around my waist, and keep my hands in those sweet little rubber-lined pockets...

Or in the cold, when the wind blows round my legs - legs it leaves so nonchalantly unprotected? Why do I have to wear it then?

Or in the sunshine, when it makes the perspiration run and I can't forget it for a moment, with its tactile commentary on every movement of my arms and thighs? Why am I made to wear it then?

Why?

You, I hope, will understand.

It is my little mac herself who makes me!

Nobody else holds me prisoner and insists on me wearing my lovely uniform. My discipline is nothing but the rules and regulations of the little dictator herself.
