The Spoils of War, Tristan DeVere Cole et al, UK TV series, 1st screened 1980	I have just seen the 2nd episode of the dvd in which Madelaine Newton clearly wears a rubberlined single-texture mackintosh. You can see the rubberlining as the sleeves are folded back. (Gerry Mackintosh)

Lili Marleen, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1980	At the end of the film the heroine Hannah Schygulla appears in a superb SBR mackintosh and goes off to the Albert Hall. The best part of the film needless to say. (Sandy) This is the story of a young singer in Munich who is in love of a jew and are separated by circumstances of the war. (Cire Noir)
Liste Noire, Alain Bonnot, La France, 1980	This film saw the return on the screen of great actress Annie Girardot (already seen with a raincoat in Traitement de Choc by Alain Jessua). She is exacting revenge for the killing of her son. She wears a beautiful long PVC shiny black raincoat with a belt. (Cire Noir.)
Friday the 13th, Part 1,Sean S. Cunningham, US, 1980	One of the camp counsellors wears a shiny, green mac in the rain. (Martin)
Midnight Lace, Ivan Nagy, USA, 1981	In this remake of the 60s film Mary Crosby plays the role of a TV-reporter in San Francisco, where the chilly fog the city is so famous for makes wearing a trenchcoat the only logical thing to do ... as Mary does, at least in the first half of the movie. (Johan)

On Golden Pond, Bruce Gilbert, US, 1981	Jane Fonda with a beige trenchcoat and brown boots. There are two scenes in which she appears with the beautiful trenchcoat (probably a Burberry) and boots. They are when she visits her father's summer house, and when she leaves there. (Aquira)
Les Uns et les Autres, Claude Lelouch, La France, 1981	This rather long film shows one scene with Geraldine Chaplin with a SBR black mac and a see through umbrella. (Cire Noir) Jac adds: Each time she goes at the railway crossing, Nicole Garcia wears a macintosh. Single-breasted and belted white mac when the action happens in the '50s, single-breasted black macintosh in the '60s ; she wears it full buttoned up and collar turned up.
Coup de Torchon, Bertrand Tavernier, France, 1981.	The end of this french film noir based on a story by Jim Thomson shows Isabelle Huppert leaving a village of Senegal in the night. She has a scene with Philippe Noiret where she explains him why she is taking the boat. She wears a gorgeous black pvc belted raincoat. Isabelle Huppert had already been seen with a shiny blue pvc mac with a zip in La Denteliere. (Cire Noir)
Diva, Jean-Jacques Beineix, France, 1981	A stylish, beautifully fimed gangster suspense movie involving a Diva, a mailman and his girlfriend, gangsters and the law.... It has with 3 wonderful twisting subplots. French/ subtitled English. The shoplifting girlfriend wears a see-through pink plastic belted rain jacket (also a short vinyl skirt) which you can hear. And a blue see-through raincoat shows up later in a scene not for the queasy...(Evad)
California Dolls, aka All the Marbles, Robert Aldrich, France, 1981	Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon are the California Dolls, a team of wrestlers looking for success. Their trainer is played by Peter Falk. One big scene is in the rain and the two girls are wearing shiny, short, pvc raincoats (blue and green). (Cire Noir, Bob) SL points out that California Dolls and All the Marbles are one and the same film, and adds: the location is Akron, Ohio, and the slickers appear at 31 minutes into the movie, with Vicki wearing a green slicker and Laurene wearing a yellow one. Both are are reversible to navy blue, which was common in the early 80s. Great movie, and one of the best examples of early 80s slickers. (SL)
Eye of the Needle, Richard Marquand, GB, 1981	After a novel of Ken Follett, with Donald Sutherland and Kate Nelligan. Shows Kate Nelligan on a small island wearing SBR Mac and rubber boots. The Trail of the Pink Panther, Blake Edwards, USA/UK, 1982	Intrepid television reporter (Joanna Lumley) wears a classic Trench as she breaks into Inspector Clousseau's apartment and is attacked by Chinese manservant Kato, who ends up wearing the frying pan! (Kiwimac)
Author, Author! Arthur Hiller, US, 1982	Al Pacino plays a single father with lots of kids. Tuesday Weld plays the author's wife who is about to leave him. She wears a green trenchcoat. (Johan)
A Little Sex, Bruce Paltrow, US, 1982	Kate Capshaw strips down and puts on a trench mac, then goes out into the rain to surprise her husband...(W)
Mille Milliards de $, Henri Verneuil, La France, 1982.	Also featuring the late french star, Patrick Dewaere, Caroline Cellier puts on a beautiful long shiny black raincoat for the last scene. (Cire Noir.)
Le Beau Mariage, Eric Rohmer, France, 1982	This is the story of Sabine (Beatrice Romand) who decide to get married without knowing who she will marry to. Arielle Dombasle is her friend and confident. She wears a long pvc black shiny raincoat in two very short scenes. (Cire Noir)
Mortelle Randonnée, Claude Miller, France, 1982.	A story of a crazy love with Michel Serrault as a detective following the rather enigmatic Isabelle Adjani who wears in few scenes a short plastic blue mac with a hood. Isabelle Adjani had already appeared with a blue pvc shiny raincoat in La Gifle. (Cire Noir)
Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Robert Altman, US, 1982	A fan club of James Dean meets on the anniversary of his death and reveal the truth about their lives to each other. There is a quick shot in a flashback scene of one of the girls wearing a hooded vinyl raincoat. (Evad)
Blade Runner, Ridley Scott, US, 1982	Has a scene where a "replicant" (human android or robot) is chased by Harrison Ford. As she runs she has on a clear plastic raincoat. The scene is short but exciting (PVC)
Meurtres à domicile, Marc Lobet, Belgium/France, 1982	Anny Duperey wears the trenchcoat (Burberry) in this movie. Co-star was her husband at the time, Bernard Giraudeau, she plays the part of a young woman police officer obliged to invistigate a murder commited in her own house. Anny appeard with the same trench in le déomon dans l'ile during the same decade with Jean Claude Brially. At the start of her career, in one of her early movies, she also appeared in trenchcoat. Tootsie, Sydney Pollack, US, 1982	Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) is a tv actor who is difficult to work with, and cannot find a job. Desperate, he lands the female lead in a tv soap, and becomes famous. He falls in love with the female lead (Jessica Lange) in the series, but cannot express it, since no one knows their rising star is a man... There is a brief view of Hoffman in a red vinyl raincoat, in the scene where s/he and a film crew are on location at a fountain. (LB)
Educating Rita, Lewis Gilbert, UK, 1983	This is Willy Russell's screen adaptation of his own play. Julie Walters and Michael Caine don't put a foot wrong. Susan aka Rita (Walters) is a Scouse hairdresser who enrols in an Open University course in English Literature. The tutor who is assigned to her is the alcoholic Dr. Frank Bryant (Caine). Initially he's not too keen and suggests she might do better to find a different tutor. She insists on him, however, and when he asks why, she replies "Cos yer a mad sod who wants to throw his students through the winda. I like yer!" Susan loses her husband but gains an education - and her self-esteem. In the early part of the film we briefly see Susan (at this stage blonde) wearing a silver PVC mac, but in the closing sequence we see her at the airport wearing a smart, grey trenchcoat. (Dave D)
La Martingale, Alain Bloch, Switzerland /France, 1983	The pictures are from the movie "La Martingale", a word that refers to the calculated stake when people gamble. Gambling addict Gordana Müller (Catherine Spaak) experiences a drastic change in her life when she puts up with Alex Brodsky (Omar Sharif), who is extremely lucky in the casinos. Not the right cure for her little vice, one would say. And is it really just luck that directs these streams of money into Alex's large pockets, or is something else going on? When a jealous ex-lover joins forces with a suspicious policeman, moving space narrows dramatically for the two players ... In the first half hour of this movie there are a three scenes where Catherine Spaak wears a long trenchcoat, as was fashionable in the early eighties ... (Johan)
Le Choc, Robin Davis, France, 1983	Le Choc sees Catherine Deneuve wearing a tightly belted white single texture trenchcoat for the majority of the film. The mac has many adventures including being thrown back and forth by Catherine and Alain Delon. Great view of the inside including the red buggy. One of my favourite films. (Dannimac)

La Crime, Philippe Labro, France, 1983	Stars Claude Brasseur, Gabrielle Lazurre, Dayle Haddon and Jean Louis Trintignant. Claude Brasseur plays the role of the chief of the criminal police pursuing an investigation where a Minister shoud have been involved. Gabrielle Lazurre plays a journalist and it is she who wears the rainwear - a green Burberry trenchcoat. But Dayle Haddon also has a nice "ensemble" jacket and skirt, not nice enough unfortunately to prevent her being killed, even though she was wearing it at the time. (André)

Terms of Endearment, James L. Brooks, US, 1983	Debra Winger is wearing a translucent plastic jacket and Shirley McLaine wears a clear plastic rain bonnet. (WK)
Mr Mom, Stan Dragoti, US, 1983.	A female crossing guard (the actress' name escapes me) wears an old fashioned yellow slicker with the buckle closures, and a matching sou'wester rain hat on the job.(Bill, David) Ron adds: Terri Garr also wears what I would bet money on to be a beige Burberry trench coat. And Ann Jillian comes knocking on Mr. Mom's door (Michael Keaton) wearing a London Fog beige trench tightly belted, and after entering the home and talking with him, she unties the belt on her trench coat, whisks it off her shoulders and lets it fall to the floor, revealing her bikini underwear! Michael Keaton then trips on the trench coat that is now on the floor. One of the best trench coat movies I have seen. (Ron)

Sixteen Candles, John Hughes, USA, 1984	There is a funny scene where the older sister (Blanche Baker) is on her way to the church for her wedding. She has taken a "few" (4) muscle relaxers and is quite wasted. She is wearing a green and blue reversible vinyl raincoat for several minutes in the movie. (FLD)
Les Ripoux, Claude Zidi, France, 1984	With Philippe Noiret and Thierry Lhermitte as two policemen. A prostitute is wearing a shiny red raincoat with a shiny black belt . (MacRain) Bernard adds: In another scene, the prostitute, Grace de Capitani , wears a long white classical trenchcoat. (Bernard)
Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman, US, 1984	Waders and a yellow rainjackets are worn when the busters enter the sewers to find the ghosts. When they return they are all over covered in ghost slime . (Jan H)
Lassiter, Roger Young, US, 1984	Reaching with a certain lack of conviction for period authenticity (the film is set in 1934) director Roger Young has Jane Seymour wear a single-texture rubberised cotton mackintosh for some of the film's key moments.. Not an obvious choice for this period, but a stroke which haply confers significance on an otherwise undistinguished entertainment. Seymour wears her smart blue mackintosh with allure and panache. A treat. (H)
L'Amour à Mort, Alain Resnais, France, 1984	Sabine Azema wears throughout the film a black mac with hood and small cape, almost like your Miss Kingfisher. (JLZ)
Liste Noire, Alain Bonnot, France, 1984	This film saw the return on the screen of great actress Annie Girardot (already seen with a raincoat in Traitement de Choc by Alain Jessua). (Cire Noir.) Annie Girardot plays the part of a mother who wants to revenge the murder of her daughter killing all the people involved in it. In most of the picture she wore a black trench coat "ciré noir". Champions, John Irvin, UK/USA, 1984	Actress Jan Francis appears in this film about Bob Champion the ex-jockey. Playing the part of a nurse she is frequently seen in her Burberry trenchcoat: looking stunning, of course. (Kevin)
The River, Mark Rydel, US, 1984	Mel Gibson, Sissy Spacek, Scott Glenn, and just about everyone else in the cast sport olive drab vinyl rainsuits, and black rubber wellies. (Bill) A family channel movie has many of the characters dressed in various color raincoats and rainsuits - the only saving grace to this very bad movie (David)

After Hours, Martin Scorsese, US, 1985	With Catherine O'Hara playing the role of Gail. After leaving work in the middle of the night a barmaid (Teri Garr) stands in the pouring rain wearing a shiny, clear PVC raincoat over a lemon yellow dress. Later she is briefly seen in it again as she rides past a window on a cycle. (Rainy Brian, also David D)
Car Trouble, David Green, UK, 1985	Julie Walters wears a long shiny green PVC raincoat and in one scene as she shelters under a tree in a rain storm another lady wears a semi-transparent mid length rain jacket. (Rainy Brian)
The Berlin Affair, Liliana Cavani, Italy/ West Germany, 1985	A filmic adaptation of a Japanese novel by Tanazaki, known under the title (amongst other titles) "The Buddist Cross". Director Liliana Cavani sets the story in Hitler's Third Reich, when sexuality was severely controlled and oppressed and lust for the flesh was strictly forbidden. But lust and flesh are all young Nazi diplomat's wife Louise ends up living (or dying?) for, when she first is charmed, then seduced and finally manipulated by the daughter of the Japanese ambassador. In this movie Gudrun Landgrebe wears a trenchcoat in many scenes, and although she never does the belt up but in one shot, she looks absolutely fabulous in it... (Johan)
The Laundromat, Robert Altman, 1985, USA.	Carol Burnett and Amy Madigan star as two lonely strangers who meet in a laundromat late one night, and find out they have a lot in common. Features Carol in a clear accordion rain bonnet. (Lorhod)
The Girl in the Picture, Cary Parker, UK, 1985	This is a very gentle comedy starring John Gordon Sinclair as Alan, a photographer working for a small shop called 'Smile Please' in Glasgow, and the lovely Irina Brook as Mary, his student girlfriend. At the start of the film he's practising how to tell her he wants her to move out, but then he catches her in the act of moving out without ever having mentioned it to him. Then, of course, he wants her to move back in, and at the end of the film decides that he "probably does definitely" love her. There are three raincoats to be seen in this film. In the early part of the film Mary wears a hooded, waxed jacket, but later wears a loose cotton raincoat with rolled up sleeves. Caroline Guthrie as Annie (who is arranging her wedding photographs) wears a nice pale blue raincoat. There are also some brief appearances by Simone Lahbib as a mysterious girl in a thin black trenchmac who keeps being noticed by Alan. (Dave)
Sylvia, Michael Firth, New Zealand, 1985	A film with Eleanor David, set in New Zealand, with her in a rubberised (or possibly waxed) single-breasted mac in several scenes - one where she walks in out of pouring rain, with the mac beautifully shiny as a result! (Huw, PEC)
Fanfan, Alexandre Jardin, France, 1985	Vincent Perez can't decide himself between his wife an the lovely Fanfan played by Sophie Marceau who wears in a couple of scene a long shiny black PVC super styled raincoat. She's never been as beautiful as in this. (Cire Noir)

Urgence, Gilles Behat, France, 1985	Actresses : Fanny Bastien, Nathalie Courval, Muriel Robin Lisa (played by Fanny Bastien) is the witness of a terrible plot by a group of neo-nazis. During the whole film, they try to eliminate her. She finds refuge with a journalist played by Richard Berry. Both of them try not only to escape from that group - but only to prevent the bombing of an antirascist concert. Fanny Bastien wears a white translucent plastic mac during the entire film. She runs with eat in numerous scenes. Nathalie Courval who plays the colleague of Richard Berry wears a shiny long PVC mac and Muriel Robin (who makes her movie debut here) wears a blue plastic hooded raincoat in the pouring rain. Golden Eighties, Chantal Akerman, 1985	Several women are wearing translucent plastic macs and jackets in different colours. (WK) In this sort of musical in a shopping gallery from Bruxelles, several destinies are crossed. Plastic macs and jackets from different colors are seen several times and in groups. Dance with a stranger, Mike Newell, GB, 1985	This is the film about Ruth Ellis featuring a Klepper mac. (Bob) Miranda Richardson is Ruth Ellis and the story takes place in 1954. The klepper mac can been seen in two (long) scenes. Unfortunately the mac is not buttoned and belted, but it's easy to imagine that way! (MacRain)
Sac de Noeuds, Josiane Balasko, 1985	Rose-Marie (played by Isabelle Huppert) in order to escape from her husband goes on the run with the suicidal Anita (played by Josiane Balasko who also direct the film). During the entire film, Isabelle Huppert wears a very pretty and slightly translucent plastic red mac. It is interesting to note that Isabelle Huppert wears a raincoat in at least three different films : la Denteliere, Coup de Torchon as well as Sac de Noeuds). (Cire Noir)
On ne meurt que deux fois, France, 1985	A crime movie in which Charlotte Rampling plays the victim's mistress. She wears a long black plastic raincoat in one (unfortunately only) short scene. (HGG) 'A treat for fans of La Rampling' - IDMB
Bras de Fer, Gerard Vergez, 1985	It is the story of a french resistance fighter during the forties who feels that he is manipulated by his friend. Everything become ambiguous in a story featuring Bernard Giraudeau and Christophe Malavoy as well as Angela Molina who wears a long belted shiny black pvc raincoat in a couple of scenes. (Cire Noir)
St Elmo's Fire, Joel Schumacher, US, 1985	In St Elmo's Fire Andy McDowell wears a rubberised mac in two scenes. The sound quality in the part where she takes off her mac is exceptional. A Murder Is Announced, David Giles, UK/USA/Australia, 1985	Samantha Bond who plays Julia Simmons, wears big knee high green rubber boots when she works in her garden. There are a couple of nice long shots when they can be seen (Samatha is talking to people), and also one or two ones closer in (one where she is pushing a wheelbarrow. So, sadly, there are only two or three scenes with her wearing the boots, but you do see them each time! (Michael)

Grand Guignol, Jean Marboeuf, France, 1986	A troup of actors is devoting its work to the Grand Guignol old theatrical style but life reveal itself more cruel than the theater. Maine Ocean, Jacques Rozier, France, 1986	Actresses : Lydia Feld, Rosa-Maria Gomes This beautiful piece of poetry of two hours and fifteen minutes shows two girls wearing the type of sea side "Guy Cotten" rainwear. The film is highly recommended. (Cire Noir)
Faubourg Saint Martin, Jean-Claude Guiguet , France, 1986	Actress : Françoise Fabian Films by Jean-Claude Guiguet are rare but always strong. In this one, Françoise Fabian who plays a very classy and human prostitute wears a long belted shiny PVC mac (can you imagine Françoise Fabian dressed like this ?) She wears it during the entire film. (Cire Noir)
Hope and Glory, John Boorman, UK, 1987	The Second World War as seen through the eyes of Billy Rohan, a nine-year old in suburban London (a superb performance by young Sebastian Rice-Edwards). His father, Clive (David Hayman), goes off to war and returns safely. Billy's mother, Grace (Sarah Miles), teenage sister, Dawn (Sammi Davis), and five-year old sister, Sue (Geraldine Muir), endure the Blitz with him. Billy and Sue almost get evacuated, but Grace decides at the last moment that she can't be separated from them. Clive's brother, Mac (Derrick O'Connor), takes them out for a day at the seaside. We learn that Mac was Grace's first love, but he waited too long, allowing Clive to get in first. On their return to London, they find their house ablaze, so it's off to stay with Grace's parents at their country house by the river. When they return from the seaside trip, Grace wears a smart-looking trenchmac. After visiting the burnt-out house next morning, it gets more than a bit grubby. She still wears it when they arrive at her parents. (Domino)

Outrageous Fortune, Arthur Hiller, US, 1987	Bette Midler looks quite sexy as she sashays through the rain in her shiny purple slicker, which she accesorizes with an umbrella and a kinky beret (her slicker is reversible, as it turns up in another scene in yellow). (Bill)
The Bedroom Window, Curtis Hanson, US, 1987	Terry (Steve Guttenberg) is having a tryst with Sylvia (Isabelle Huppert), a married woman. Whilst he is in his bathroom, she witnesses through his bedroom window Denise (Elizabeth McGovern) being attacked. He thinks she should tell the Police. Problem: that would expose their affair. To get around this, he tells the Police that he witnessed it. Oh, what a tangled web ensues! At the very start of the film, we briefly see Isabelle Huppert wearing a white raincoat. It's a special style that you only see in films. When she's approaching the house she has it on, but immediately she's through the door it's gone. I think they call it "the jump cut"! (Dave P)

In the middle part, you see Daryl Hannah's character dashing from an old pick-up truck into the shoppe during a downpour, wearing a long red slicker with a clear sou'wester type rainbonnet. The movie is supposed to be set in the 1960's, but features Poly Bergen in a London Fog 'Lissette' trench coat, circa 1982-1986, without a belt. Even without the belt, a treasure! It has now been released on DVD.
Sea of Love, Harold Becker, US, 1989	Al Pacino's Frank asks Helen (Ellen Barkin) to meet him in the supermarket wearing only her raincoat. The material is some sort of polyurethane, in black. The lightening flashes and flashes again as these two ace performers show what it's all about. (H)
