My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Ivan Reitmann, US, 2006 |
Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson) meets and falls for Jenny Jackson (Uma Thurman), without initially knowing that she is the alter ego of G-Girl, a superheroine. (Think of Diana Prince alias Wonder Woman or Linda Lee Danvers alias Supergirl.) When her true identity is revealed to him, his ardour cools and he realises he loves his work colleague, Hannah (Anne Faris). G-Girl reacts badly to being dumped and exacts her revenge. Just to complicate matters, Jenny's former boyfriend, Barry, now Professor Bedlam (Eddie Izzard), comes on the scene. CGI effects are used competently, though they are hardly ground-breaking. Ah, if only this film was as funny as it intends to be! Some may feel that the cartoon sequence accompanying the closing credits is quite a bit funnier than the film itself. Never mind. We can take solace in the fact that in several scenes, Jenny wears a trench mac. (Dave D) |
