Traditional Weatherwear has an interesting history, which in fact comes right up to date.    Some of the records are contested, but at least it seems established that the firm was bought by one Daniel Dunko in the mid-1990s, who then adroitly launched a firm called Mackintosh Ltd.  Mackintosh Ltd was acquired by the Tokyo-based company Yagi Tsusho in 2007.

Mackintosh Ltd have apparently laid claim to 'the Mackintosh brand', if  press reports in January 2011 are to be relied on, reports heralding the launch of a new shop under Mackintosh Ltd ownership in Mayfair's Mount Street.

It is alleged that because 'the brand' was allegedly owned by Traditional Weatherwear Ltd when it was bought by Dunko, title to the brand has now passed to Yagi Tsusho.

If this is corrrect it would seem to follow that no-one other than the new Japanese owners have the right to sell Mackintoshes.

Which, let us all hope, is what in the trade is known as a reductio ad absurdum.
